Cromwell Receives Service Award

At George Washington's Birthday Convocation in February, the Alumni Association saluted Barbara Townsend Cromwell '55 with the 2008 Alumni Service Award.

The award honors those members of the College community who consistently and faithfully volunteer for the benefit of their alma mater. Cromwell's involvement with the College has included several volunteer roles, including service on the Alumni Council (she was president in 1979-80), membership on the Board of Visitors and Governors between 1980 and 1986, and work on several occasions as Reunion Chair. Active as a Trustee Emeritus since 1988, she was tapped to serve as the first chairman of the George Washington Society, which encourages alumni to include Washington College in their estate plans.

In presenting the award, Alumni Board Chair Dick Fitzgerald '60 remarked: "Despite the passage of more than five decades, Barbara's ties with her classmates remain strong, and her devotion to her alma mater is evident in her unflagging efforts to support and sustain Washington College."
