New Face, New Focus

Carolyn Fuss Thompson '98, who for the past eight years worked as a volunteer specialist at the American Red Cross of Central Maryland, is the new Assistant Director of Alumni Relations.

Her major focus is on young alumni and current students.

"One of my first tasks is to find new ways of connecting with young alumni," she says. "Whether we use online communication tools such as blogs and Twitter, or create new opportunities for young professionals to volunteer for the College, it's essential we stay current with the trends and tools young people are using today. We need to meet them where they are and be able to speak their language."

Carolyn earned a BA in psychology from Washington College and a master's degree in non-profit management from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland.

"I gained so much from my time at Washington College—a new worldview, lifelong friends and an excellent education. When it came time to graduate, I didn't want to leave, so I promised myself I would come back one day. I'm excited about this new position because it allows me to combine the skills I acquired after college with my passion for giving back to the school that helped shape who I am."
