Benjamin Kohl, a College trustee serving on the 225th anniversary committee, unearthed William Smith's Account of Washington College, 1784, listing the first full board of Washington College.
Early College leadership included notable statesmen of the day, including:
- The First Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Army, and the first president of the United States: George Washington
- Two signers of the Declaration of Independence: William Paca and Samuel Chase
- Two Governors of the State of Maryland: William Paca and John Henry
- Two Members of the First Congress of the United States: Senator John Henry and Representative Joshua Seney
- One Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court: Samuel Chase
- Six members of the Continental Congress: William Paca, Robert Goldsborough, John Henry, Samuel Chase, Joshua Seney and Joseph Nicholson
- Three high sheriffs, four delegates to Maryland Constitutional Convention, three Maryland State Senators, 8 delegates to Maryland Assembly, 11 army and naval officers, two physicians, and three clery of the Episcopal Church, all holding the degree of Doctor of Divinity.
