Greetings From Sri Lanka

By Chandev W. Abhayaratne '94

After a lapse of several years, the Sri Lanka Chapter of the Washington College Alumni Association held a reunion at the spectacular Yacht Club on the Bolgoda Lake in western Sri Lanka, not far from the capital city Colombo.

Alums delighted in the gorgeous lake view and gourmet barbecue lunch, while chatting with old friends. Many of the attendees live in various countries around the world but traveled home for the gathering.

During the reunion, alums shared fond memories of the "Best College of All" and exchanged stories about the escapades of their glorious college years. Despite the passing of time—evident from the growth in family size and waistlines—the open bar and familiar (drinking) games took everyone back to the days in Chestertown.

Praveen Abhayaratne '01 and Shehann De Soyza '94 organized the event and volunteered to be co-chairs henceforth, much to the satisfaction of current chapter co-presidents Radesh Daluwatte '96 and Chandev Abhayaratne '94.

Over the past few years, about 21 Sri Lankans have graduated from WC. The chapter looks forward to touching base with any others who may have slipped beneath the radar, and can't wait for their next reunion where they can proudly say, "George, we love you!" again.
