As the daughter and granddaughter of career diplomats and the wife of a former U.S. Ambassador, Margaret Bennett has traveled the world. She understands the importance of foreign service and encourages a broad global view.
Now, with an endowed fund to support the international studies program, she is perpetuating a family legacy dedicated to shaping a more peaceful world.
Since her introduction to WC more than 10 years ago, Bennett has helped defray the expenses of students who study and intern abroad by supporting the international studies program with annual gifts.
Bennett has helped students pursue internships at U.S. embassies in Brunei, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Honduras, India, and Venezuela, among others. With her support, students have traveled and interned in Morocco, Tanzania and Thailand.
Last fall, Bennett, a trustee emerita, endowed the international studies program with a gift of $100,000. The Margaret Bennett Fund will support students who study abroad as they prepare for careers in the foreign service and with the U.S. State Department.
"Mrs. Bennett has been a generous supporter of our efforts to send students abroad," notes Tahir Shad, director of the international studies program. "Because of the different regional concentrations the program offers—in Africa and Asia and Latin America—our students can go beyond the traditional European programs most schools offer."
