Need To Feed Spurs New Construction

What's a college to do when its dining hall is too small to accommodate its student body, but kids still insist on eating?

College planners have come up with a fast-track solution that permits demolition and replacement of the 1965-era addition to Hodson Hall without disrupting meal services. A temporary dining pavilion now under construction adjacent to Hodson Hall will be completed by May 15.

Over the summer, construction will begin on a new structure housing dining facilities and an expansive student center with an open performance area, a game room and an office suite for student activities and student government, as well as an eatery and retail space. Construction is scheduled to begin in May; completion is set for August 2009.

The Dining Hall will be a two-story structure, including an optional mezzanine level with additional seating. With a total seating capacity of 700, the Dining Hall could serve up to 2,100 students.

This project is part of the College's Strategic Plan to enhance the quality of residential life. At press time, the project cost had not been determined.
