Mary Wood has written a play about contemporary life on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Hunting Rights was staged at the Church Hill Theatre in early November. "As far as know, this is the only play set on the Shore which deals with local problems we are facing today. The play examines issues involving expansion of houses on agricultural land and the influx of people who bring with them a different set of values. Many conflicts are shown here, between generations, between classes, and between the sexes, as well as between an older, perhaps more gracious way of life, and today's commercialism and hustle."

When Susan Huntley Wright '95, of Nashville, TN, hosted a dinner party at the conclusion of a 12-week Italian class she had taken this summer, the conversation eventually turned to "Where are you from and how did you end up here?" Lynn Tucker replied she was from a little town called Easton on Maryland's Eastern Shore, certain no one at the party would have ever heard of it. Susan told Lynn she had attended Washington College, right near Easton.
Lynn replied, "You're kidding, I went to Washington College!" then yelled across the room, "And so did Mike!" referring to her husband, Mike Tucker. Lynn, known then as Beverly Lynn Sharp, had graduated with a bachelor's degree in biology in 1969. Mike Tucker earned a master's degree in psychology in 1978.
To make things even stranger, Mike and Lynn had not met at Washington College, but at a "Cajun Cookout" in 1985. After their first visit to Italy in 2002, Mike vowed to learn the language and return to Italy.
Mike put his newfound language skills to good use during a two-week trip to Italy in July, conversing with lace makers in Bologna, asking directions in Venice and Rome, and ordering food and wine "in Italiano."
Susan is still planning her trip.
