We asked our first-year students to tell us what comforts from home they packed into the family SUV. Among all the computers and clothes, sports equipment and iPods, what really matters? (Clockwise from right): For Caroline Perry, a well-traveled bicycle named "Pedals" helps her explore the Chestertown area. Eni Eboda always wears the Celtic cross he bought during his church youth group's pilgrimage to England. The director of his high school's pep band, Douglas Pfaff is particularly attached to his silver field drum. Best friends Kaitlin Dietrich and Kirstin Bowdler share everything: including choice of colleges. Jordon Brown would be lost without her writing journal. Danny Beadell wears his championship jacket as inspiration for future swim competitions.

No third wheel here. Caroline Perry and Pedals have been everywhere together.

Kaitlin Dietrich and Kirstin Bowdler are best friends but not roommates. "We were scared we'd lock ourselves up in our room and watch Friends all day."
