Nobody would have thought four years ago that Beth Foster would be completing her college athletic career as the senior captain of the tennis team.

Foster, who was recruited to play basketball, hit the hardwood for the Shorewomen for only one season before making the transition to tennis as a junior. "Beth came on the team with little tennis background and experience," remembers head tennis coach Constantine Ananiadis.

"For her to be playing No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles on the eighth-ranked team in the region is truly unbelievable."

Foster, along with doubles partner Allison Daciek, finished the 2006 season with a record of 12-6 at No. 1 doubles. The pair also was regionally ranked in the top 15 throughout most of the season. As a singles player, Foster recorded 26 victories, mainly at No. 2 and 3. "Having played other sports surely helped Beth on the tennis court. She's one of the better athletes I've ever coached," says Ananiadis.

Foster's hard work on and off the court definitely stood out, not only to her coaches but to her teammates as Beth Foster '06 Women's Tennis well. "Beth is as close to a coach's dream as you will find," commented Ananiadis.

"It wasn't a coincidence that our team was successful this year. Yes, we were more talented than the year before, but having Beth (and co-captain Lyndsey Beidle) as our leaders was truly irreplaceable."

Out in left field is a magical place for Diane Green, who earned second team All-Centennial Conference honors for her performance there this season. At the plate, Green scored a team-leading 26 runs and recorded a teamhigh 20 walks along with 6 doubles, a home run and 16 runs batted in on the season.

Green led the team in on-base percentage (.416), which was also good for ninth in the conference. Green's 20 walks also ranked second in the conference. Green has now earned All-Conference recognition in all four seasons at Washington.

She was an All-CC honorable mention as a freshman and was a first team selection in 2004 and 2005.

Her school records at the plate include career RBI, career walks, single-season slugging percentage, single-season total bases and singleseason walks. As a pitcher, she holds or shares school records for career wins, career complete games, career shutouts, career strikeouts, singleseason complete games and single-season shutouts. She also holds the school record for fielding percentage in a season and committed just seven errors in 125 career games played.

Rafael Roldan '09 a first-year tennis player from Quito, Ecuador, finished the 2006 season with an impressive 19-3 record at No. 6 singles. Roldan has strung together a 17-match winning streak, which will be carried into the 2007 season. Roldan also teamed with freshman teammate Anantha Bhaskar to put together a 17-4 record for the season at No. 3 doubles.

"Rafael made tremendous progress since coming here in January," noted coach Constantine Ananiadis. "His upside potential is really great and we look for him to step up and play high in our lineup with great success next year."
