Stephen Berger '04, a lacrosse standout now working as assistant men's lacrosse coach at his alma mater, has made the big league. Berger was named to the 18-man game day roster for the Long Island Lizards of Major League Lacrosse (MLL).
In his first professional game, Berger recorded one shot as the Lizards dropped their season opener to New Jersey, 15-14, on May 20. He scored his first two professional goals, including a two-pointer, and assisted on another to help lead Long Island past Rochester, 17-14, a week later.

Berger became the first Shoreman to be drafted by an MLL team when the Lizards selected him in the fifth round last June. He spent last summer on the team's practice squad.
One of the most outstanding players in Washington College history, Berger polished off a stellar collegiate career at Washington in 2004, scoring a school-record 94 points on 53 goals and 41 assists and leading the team in all three of those categories. He also scooped up a team-high 70 ground balls. He was named the 2004 Co-Midfielder of the Year for Division III. He was also named the Centennial Conference Player of the Year and the ECAC South Player of the Year for the second consecutive year, was recognized as a first team All-American for the second straight season and as an All-American for the third year in a row. Berger totaled 135 goals, 106 assists, 241 points, and 276 ground balls in four years at WC.
The Lizards, who finished a 6-6 season in 2004, won the Major League Lacrosse Championship in 2001 and again in 2003. The Lizards are one of six teams in the MLL; there are also franchises in Philadelphia, New Jersey, Rochester, Baltimore and Boston.
