ATTENTION ALL ALUMNI: Reunion Weekend begins Thursday, May 19, 2005 for our “Older and Wiser” alumni and Friday, May 20, 2005 for everyone else. Your Alumni Office has made plans for a great weekend to include faculty talks, our traditional picnic and boat rides on the mighty Chester River. Bring your dancing shoes because there’s a spectacular band for Saturday night! ELIZABETH BLACKWAY RUFF traveled to Nova Scotia and attended a granddaughter’s wedding in Washington, DC (such fun!) and ended the summer with her family at the ocean. “A busy time! Peggy Benton Smith and her daughter, Bonnie, stayed with me for an enjoyable couple of days and we visited Ray and Esther Kirby at their retirement home.”

CELESTE PIGG HERBERT keeps her suitcase packed for Elderhostel, church and relative travels. She went to southwest France this past fall and saw cave paintings in the Pyrenees Mountains, wineries and sampled foie gras— “Yes, I’m bragging but it was wonderful!”

SOPHIE “TOBY” JONES STERLING is living in a condo in a Salisbury, MD, retirement community, Mallard Landing, with lots of activities and volunteering opportunities. “Nothing exciting here, but I’m healthy and find life pleasant. Would enjoy hearing from old friends.”

BUCKI AND BILL DULIN visited Chestertown in November. They have four grandchildren in Michigan and love spending time with them, especially for a month during the summer. Bucki, her late sister Molly and Bill all love Washington College.

1948

CLASS AGENT: DON DERHAM

DON DERHAM and his wife, Lois, recently celebrated their 50th anniversary by taking a cruise to Nova Scotia and Quebec City. They also attended the WWII Naval Air Bomber Squadron Reunion in Tulsa, OK.

E. GRACE MCCABE MCCOOL and her husband, Ralph ’49, attended a national meeting of the 29th Division, 115th Infantry where they had a conversation about WWII hero Benjamin Vandervoort ’38. They continued their search for Ralph’s family tree at the Alumni House where “lovely, qualified ladies helped us.” Their next stop will be the Queen Anne’s County Historical Society.

JOE SUTTON and his wife, Jane Lewis Sutton ’52, moved from Easton, MD, back to Rockville, MD, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. They are both healthy and happy!

1949

CLASS AGENT: JEAN URFFER AFRICA

BENNETTE MORTON COPE had a wonderful time at Reunion and loved seeing everyone. It was the first time she had returned to WC since graduation!

DIANE CASHELL GARBER is a watercolor artist and has been commissioned to do many paintings. She belongs to the Florida Watercolor Society and the Orlando Watercolor Society. She travels a great deal and went to the Kentucky Derby last May and to Canada last summer. She would love to see classmates when they come to Winter Park, FL.

ANITA STARLINGS MOORE really enjoyed her 55th Reunion.

LOIS PROCTOR PARKER says “It was wonderful coming back for Reunion—staying with the Alpha Chis at Minta Martin Hall was quite an experience, although a little different at our age!”

HERBERT WARD was diagnosed with debilitating Fahr’s disease in 1996 and has moved into a skilled care home in Salisbury, MD. His family lives nearby. “This is an A+ facility so I am as well off as I can be. Wish the news could be happier.”

GRAHAM WATT still loves world travel. Now, instead of traveling as a consultant to governments, he travels for pleasure to places of interest like Slovenia and Croatia, Sicily, Thailand and other more familiar locales.

1950

REUNION CLASS CHAIR: LARRY BRANDENBURG

WILLIAM GREENLY retired from GMAC in 1990 after 41 years. He “is enjoying retirement with just about enough to do to keep me occupied.”

RANKIN LUSBY is a caregiver three days a week for his mother who will be 101 years “young” in May. He also manages the Kennedyville farm, garden and yard. He and his wife, Carole, have lived in Crofton, MD, for 33 years. Their son is in Los Angeles and his daughter lives in Philadelphia. He is a member of the Rotary Club and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.

DONALDSON TALL is a member of the Western Connecticut Orienteering Club. Orienteering, which can be compared to a child’s treasure hunt for adults, was originally a military exercise. It can be conducted on foot, bicycle, cross-country skis or by small boat.

1952

CLASS AGENT: JACK BACON

ROBERT EARLEY reports that his wife, Hazel, died in May 2004. They had moved from Indiana, PA, to Ocean City, MD, in September 2003.

RICHARD JANIGIAN has retired as a teacher but continues to be involved. He went to Congress to help pass “The Extra-Duty Pay Bill.”

WILLIAM LLOYD says he “had many good days in Chestertown. My education helped me get a good position with EPA in the state of Delaware, where I worked for 30 years.”

JAMES TRADER spends his retirement researching his family genealogy and as a board member and legislative chairman of The Coalition to Protect Maryland Burial Sites, Inc. He also volunteers on the Recycling Task Force in Salisbury, MD.

1953

CLASS AGENT: TONY TONIAN

SHIRLEY HAND LAWALL has finally retired from real estate sales after 18 years. She is now having fun traveling with Paul Desmond ’53. They have plans to go to Aspen for skiing, Spain for sun, California to see family and Ocean City, MD, for fun.

WILLIAM MURRAY retired in January 2005 and is serving as a volunteer at the Information Desk on Thursday mornings at the Smithsonian’s American History Museum in Washington, DC.

JOHN BERGEN and his wife, Carol, will celebrate their 47th wedding anniversary this April. They have six grandchildren. They spend six months in Vero Beach, FL, and six months in New Jersey, and he still manages to play golf at least twice a week. They are looking forward to his 50th Reunion this May.

KEN BOURN and his wife, Jean, are celebrating 45 years together. They have three children and three grandchildren. They are both retired from teaching and now volunteer in public service projects. “Life is good to us.”

WAYNE GRUEHN has semi-retired after 49 years in radio and television broadcasting. He currently is contracted to Image Line, a company that produces “on hold” messages for business corporations, medical practices and hospitals across the country. He works from his home studio in Arnold, MD.

BETTY BLANTON MERRITT suggests fellow alumni review precautions for identity theft before it happens—she had mail stolen from her mailbox including checks and bank statements.

BARBARA JONES WINNE has settled in Florida and is slowly getting involved in life there. She belongs to F.I.S.H. (Friends in Service Here), which provides respite and transportation—“right up my practical nurse alley.” She visited Orlando with her New Jersey family and the Colorado family visited in December for a couple of weeks. “Life goes on. Kids grow up and grandkids blossom. It’s a beautiful life and I have much to be grateful for.”

JOSEPH HARASTA is the tax assessor for Deptford Township, NJ. He retired from E.I. DuPont Nemours & Co. in 1990 and retired from the Coast Guard in 1994 with the rank of Captain.

BILL LITSINGER reports: “In the small world category, I met my brother’s new neighbor, Gordon Haaland (the retired President of Gettysburg), in Kilmarnock, VA. His provost at one time had been none other than Baird Tipson—and the Tolls had dinner with the Haalands in Maine this past summer; he’s known them for some time. Haaland had nothing but great things to say about President Tipson.”

BILL NOBLE is building two separate freestanding Volvo and Mercedes facilities on 3.5 acres in March 2005 and hopes to add three more top-end facilities. “I miss seeing my Phi Sigma Kappa friends and others.”

1959

CLASS AGENT: CHARLIE DOWNS

MARILYN BOSTON BANDEL and her husband, Allan, are enjoying their fourth grandchild, now 19 months old. “They all live within five miles of home so we see them frequently.” She keeps busy with old hobbies (sewing, choir, reading) and new ones like china painting and ballroom dancing. They hope to make a return visit to Alaska this year.

RON AND CHARLOTTE SAMUELS COOK “are enjoying retired life, playing golf and making life easy!”

SALLY ANN GROOME COOPER retired from full time science teaching in 2003 but is mentoring new science teachers in Howard County, MD. She continues to consult for the National Institute on Drug Abuse. She saw her classmate and Alpha Chi sister, Eleanor Sewell Briggs, recently for the first time in 45 years.

TOM CROUSE and his wife, Kay, sold their 20-year-old business in July 2004. Tom moved to New Hampshire in semi-retirement but Kay continues to work in Washington, DC, at the Hay Adams Hotel. “We will rendezvous regularly until she gets tired of supporting me.”

SHIRLEY SCROGGS LAW JACOBUS moved last year and is still busy decorating and painting. She has plans to travel extensively in Europe the next three years since her daughter and family are in Copenhagen. Shirley has four grandchildren, ages 1 month to 5 years.

BOB WILSON is still selling beer after 42 years and counting. “If you’re in the Annapolis area, there is an open invitation to stop by for a cold one.” He and his wife, Bobbie, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary by taking a limo into DC to see The Producers with Bruce Cooper ’59 and Dick and Ellen Green Reilly ’59 ’58. “Lotsa bubbly!”

REUNION CLASS CHAIR: WARREN DEFRANK

WARREN DEFRANK is loving retirement and plans to attend his 45th Reunion May 20-21. He hopes all old Phi Sigs will come back too.

BOB EISSELE is enjoying his retirement from The Rouse Company as well as his four grandchildren. He is also looking forward to his wife’s retirement in a few years. They are planning a trip to Savannah and Florida to visit family this spring.

CAROL VUONO tried to retire this year but didn’t like it. She is working as a sales assistant for a national builder in the busy southwest Florida real estate market. She is enjoying occasional visits from children and grandchildren and of course, living in paradise—Venice, FL.

ROBERT WARREN finally retired after 38 years with the Navy, the last 19 with the Surface Combat Systems Center at Wallops Island, VA, as the supply department head. He will be traveling, fishing and visiting grandkids in the foreseeable future.

1962

ANN KANE BAILEY is happy in her job as creative director at a graphic design firm. One daughter lives nearby in Pasadena, CA, with her two children, so she sees them often. Her other daughter and two children live in San Francisco, where she visits frequently.

HOLLY BURKE recently visited with three alumnae in North Carolina: Lisa Ruedi ’63, Judy Baetzner Betz ’63 and Kitty Yoder Eaton ’63.

1963

CLASS AGENT: KITTY YODER EATON

LARRY GOLUB retired three years ago after 39 years in private practice as a dentist. He finally received his B.S. degree from Washington College last year! He now lives in Florida and Vermont with his wife and devotes his free time to a credit union directorship.

JUDITH CLAYTON HOGAN has retired as a teacher in the Kansas public schools. She and her husband survived the four Florida hurricanes with minimal damage. They “still love Cape Coral, or, as it is advertised, ‘Paradise.’”

SUSANNE BOLTEN GUTPELET has been “grateful and happy in my life as a wife, mom, grandmom and working professional. It has been an adventure with its ups and downs. We all know what those are. Sorry to have missed the 40th Reunion but reunion weekend always falls on my birthday and family wins. Thelma von Behren Smullen ’64, I think of you every day. Remember the fork!!??”

RICHARD EVANS refuses to consider retirement. He bought a large farming operation in Texas last year (cotton, corn and wheat). He traveled to Argentina to investigate forestry and agricultural opportunities. “My mind is almost as busy investigating new fields as it was 40 years ago at WC. Life’s challenges have their own rewards!”

JOHN DALY continues to lead folk dance classes in Brevard County, FL.

ROBERT VANDERCLOCK has been speaking at UFO seminars, notably the annual Bordentown, NJ, “Great UFO Congress and Earth Mysteries Festival” last November. He will be a featured speaker at the April 2005 Exopolitics Conference in Gaithersburg, MD.

1969

CLASS AGENT: LINDA SHEEDY

LOUISE MASTEN AMICK has been selected for the third time for inclusion in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. Only 5% of college faculty members are honored each year.

STEVE AMICK was re-elected to the Delaware State Senate for his fourth term this past November. He has now served for 19 years.

MARGARET NUTTLE MELCHER attended the 2004 graduation exercises and her Class Reunion last May and enjoyed it all. She says Bennett Lamond “graduated” into retirement, was honored by her class and taught a “last class” that was—as always—”superb.” She has gone back to work as a private service trainer to Starkey International. “It’s odd but very interesting.”

JOHN OVERINGTON was re-elected to his eleventh term in the West Virginia House of Delegates. He is now the most senior legislator in the House. “It has been an enjoyable, inspiring and challenging 20 years.”

SHARON STUMPF has self-published Sunbeams and Shadows, A Memoir in Verse under the pen name of Sharon Leigh.

1970

REUNION CLASS CHAIR: GINNY COLFELT ARTHUR

BARBARA MOORE VANZANDT has been living on a 23-acre farm in southern Vermont with husband, Tim, for 25 years. “We have four horses, one dog and two cats. Our daughter, Annike, who recently graduated from St. Lawrence, works for John Hancock in Boston. Our son, John, is a junior at the University of Vermont in sports medicine.”

RON AND JOANNE RENDA HOGG are well and living in Marriottsville, MD. Their daughter, Maria, is a sophomore at WC and “loves it as much as we did. We enjoyed seeing old friends at our 30th Reunion last May.”

LISA TURNER is the Chief Learning Officer for Tyco Fire and Security in Boca Raton, FL. In 2003 she married Jerry Stadtmiller, who restores antique aircraft. Lisa continues work on her second aircraft project in her garage.

PATRICIA PERRY VIAMONTE teaches English to corporate officials at Honda Greis and at Emerson College. The company owned by her husband, Norberto ’73, is listed on the NY Stock Exchange.

KEITH TWITCHELL has been named President of the Committee for a Better New Orleans, a nonprofit organization that works as an agent for change to improve the quality of life in that city. “It’s a substantial organization and a huge responsibility. Congratulations, condolences and contributions all gratefully accepted!”

1978

CLASS AGENT: MIKE BROWN

ALLISON ROBSON BATEMAN and her husband, Bernie, spend much of the winter skiing in Park City, UT. They enjoy the beach in the summer. Their daughter, Courtney, is a freshman at the University of Denver.

MARY AIKIN LYMAN is still teaching but has taken on additional duties as a counselor at Telesis Preparatory Academy. She also has a new grandchild, Kaytee.

SHELLEY SHARP reports that she and her family survived hurricane season in Florida. They packed, boarded and sandbagged, then removed everything a few days later. There was only minor damage to their home in Tampa. In addition to raising Andrew, 8, and Allison, 4, and working full time, she has been a volunteer for Metropolitan Ministries, which serves homeless families and children, as well as for AT&T Pioneers and Andrew’s school. The family spent spring break in Key Biscayne and were in Ocean City, MD, in July.

1979

TAD JACKS has been named head of The Odyssey School in Stevenson, MD. The school specializes in serving dyslexic children in grades one through eight. Tad was previously at Friends School of Baltimore.

FREEMAN DODSWORTH has been recalled to active duty and deployed to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Dodsworth, a Commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve, is assigned as Operations Officer for Naval Coastal Warfare Squadron 25. His unit provides force protection to ships and personnel, and ensures safe passage for all materiel arriving by sea to the war zone. LESLIE LIGHTON-HUMPHREYS has made the transition from testing computer software used in Merck Research Laboratories to auditing computer system and lifecycle documents for global regulatory compliance.

JOSH PETRIE and his 5-year-old twin boys have moved to the Richmond, VA, area. He’d love anyone in the area to get in touch.

SARAH MOTYCKA is running dry land sled dogs (Alaskan Huskies) and competing in several races. T-Bone and Hopper are the lead dogs. After 17 years, she is still teaching.

TINSLEY BELCHER and her husband, Scott Van Osten, are enjoying life in Amsterdam. They have had visits from Vanessa Haight ’84, Nancy Gillio-Terry ’86 and Becca Hutchinson ’91. Their daughter, Samantha, just turned 14 and is in her first year at a Dutch high school.

AMY JEAN STEIGLEMAN is an attorney handling criminal and family law matters.

SCOTT VOGEL and his wife, Heather, moved to a new house this year. They have two children, Connor, 3, and Blake 1.

REUNION CLASS CHAIR: KELLY CUPKA VAN ISHEM

MELISSA COMBES is Director of Development for Babcock Graduate School of Management, a position she has held since 1996, and the Calloway School of Business and Accountancy at Wake Forest University.

BETZY DEACONSON-WILLIS teaches seventh grade math at Catonsville Middle School. She does not teach her daughter, Sarah, who is in seventh grade at the same school! Luke, 15, is at the local high school and Jake, 8, is in second grade. All play soccer coached by dad, Jack ’82. This year she completed the Annapolis 10-miler and the Baltimore half-marathon.

NIMI NATAN is founder and Managing Director of Aquetong Capital Advisors, a boutique investment bank with offices in New York and outside Philadelphia. DAVID HEALEY served as a judge for this year’s Baltimore Book Festival Literary Award for Best New Novel. The judges chose Dan Fesperman’s The Small Boat of Great Sorrows; the runner-up was Anne Tyler’s The Amateur Marriage. David’s new non-fiction book, 1812: Rediscovering the Chesapeake Bay’s Forgotten War, was published by BellaRosa Books in late 2004.

RICHARD BRASSER and his wife, Megan, have two children, Dolan, 2, and Hailey, 6 months. He started his own company, Targeted Fold, four years ago and was named 2003 Entrepreneur of the Year in Charlotte, NC.

LALEH MALEK was recently promoted to Coordinator of Internship, Career Services and Professional Experience for the College of Business and Economics at Towson University. She is still teaching marketing and business courses.

MARIE ENSOR GOODWIN and her husband, Craig, reside in Perry Hall, MD, with their two daughters, Lauren, 4, and Olivia, 2.

APRIL DEAN WHITACRE and husband, Rodney, have opened a clothing boutique in St. Michaels, MD. Charisma carries clothing lines from top U.S. designers such as Trina Turk, Nicole Miller, Betsey Johnson, Tianello Tencel, Haven Bleu and Ingenuity, as well as stylish and original shoes, jewelry and handbags. Their other shop, Mind’s Eye, was voted the number 3 fine craft store in the country by Niche Magazine.

PETER DEJONG has been promoted to Director of Programming and Production at A&E Television Networks International, where he will manage the content, programming and scheduling strategy for their international joint venture and affiliate channels as well as program acquisition deals.

JENNIFER GRIFFIN is a museum and client services specialist for Museum Software Company.

TODD KAGLER reports his stepdaughter, Heather, married a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne based at Ft. Bragg last year.

1993

NIURKA GOENAGA welcomes any visitors to the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel in Miami, FL, where she is the general manager. She is also working on her dissertation in applied mathematics.

CHRISTOPHER VAUGHN reports: “All is well here in New York. I see Charlie Linehan ’93 quite a bit. He’s still up here at the DA’s office. I’ve also been out to visit Ted Greeley ’93 in California. He was recently promoted to Major in the Marines following his seven-month tour in Fallujah. I’m in regular contact with Chris Kleberg ’93 too, although I haven’t been down to Dallas to see their new son yet.”

WILLIAM BRIMHALL has been hanging out with the horses on Doug Hoffberger ’94’s farm. Matt Johnson ’94, Charlie Rienhoff ’94, Peter Green ’94 and David Dennehy ’95 have been seen at the farm, too.

JEFFREY S. GRAFTON changed careers and accepted a position with Kent County Public Schools as Supervisor of Human Resources. “Although I had ten successful years with MBNA Corporation in Wilmington, DE, I can’t beat my new walking commute! I currently serve as the Kent & Queen Anne’s Counties Alumni Chapter President, the Alumnus Advisor to Beta Omega chapter of Kappa Alpha, and serve on the Vestry of Emmanuel Church in Chestertown. Sally Haynsworth Grafton ’93 and I are enjoying raising our two children, Andrew and Molly, in Chestertown as well as participating in the community. Please call or stop by if you’re in town!”

ANDREW PARKS received his Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Stetson University in December. “If any of you are ever in the Orlando area, please look me up!”

REUNION CLASS CHAIR: ALICIA CARBERRY HAM

ALICIA CARBERRY HAM became a proud aunt/godmother to Taylor McLean Baratian, daughter of Jackie and Chris Baratian.

TONY HIGGINS and his wife, Susan Garille, moved to Bethesda, MD, in 2002. He works for EMC Corp. in Rockville, selling IT equipment to the military. He recently visited Stephen Berger ’95 in Heidelberg, Germany, where Stephen is teaching.

SUSAN HIMMELHEBER MCDONOUGH is an elementary school teacher in Hollywood, MD, and will be graduating this spring from the College of Notre Dame in Baltimore with a master’s degree in teaching. She married Matthew McDonough, a sergeant with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Department, on June 28 2003. Alumni in attendance were April DeMarr Todd ’95, Laura Heidel ’95 and Bruce Alexander ’94. They welcomed a baby girl, Callie Elizabeth McDonough, on June 11, 2004. They reside in Lusby, MD.

GREG MILLER and his wife, Kouri ’96, have moved back to Maryland after nine years in Houston, TX. Kouri was promoted at NASA and works at their headquarters in Washington, DC. Greg started his own logistics company. They have two children, Grant, 6, and Lauren, 3

JULIE KLEIN WINTER and her husband, Tim, have moved from Jacksonville, FL, to Arnold, MD. “Aside from enjoying family and friends, we’ve been busy with our 3-year-old daughter, Neely, and 8- month-old son, Grady. I am loving motherhood!”

SHELLEY BROWN WOJCIECHOWSKI has been married since 2000 to her husband, Joe, who is a web developer. They live in Baltimore, with their daughter Anna Elizabeth (see Babies, p. 35) and enjoy get-togethers with Scott and Cheryl Bull Overend ’93 ’95, Amy Draper ’95, Pam Hendrickson Boan ’94 and Mike and Denise Coleman Hanifee ’94.

SUSAN HUNTLEY WRIGHT and her husband, Kyle, have finally settled in Nashville, TN, after years of moving around. “We actually bought a house, so we must be staying for a while! Please drop us a line, especially if you live here or would like to visit! And just for old time’s sake: ZLAM!”1995

HEATHER ADAMS has been employed as the Resource Conservationist for the Franklin Conservation District in Pasco, WA. She is married to Gregory Wendt and has a one-year-old daughter, Allyson.

RACHEL A.B. FORD is sales manager for Bay Lighting in Crofton, MD. She still lives on the farm in Lothian, spending her free time fox hunting with her sister, Molly ’93. She has her own pack of foxhounds, called Bright Leaf after the prize leaf on a tobacco plant.

1998

DINA ABBATE BECK recently co-authored a paper published in The Business Review, Cambridge, titled “Rewards and Personality in the Workplace.” The paper also was presented at a business and technology conference in Las Vegas. She lives in New Jersey with her husband, Jeffrey, and attends graduate school at Rowan University.

BILL BRAWNER is working within the DC community to improve the educational needs of children, as well as various environmental problems.

MELISSA CHRISTINE received her doctorate in clinical psychology from Chicago School of Professional Psychology last year.

STACY LARKIN and her husband, Ben, moved into their new home in Jarrettsville, MD, with their three golden retrievers. Stacy’s a Sourcing Buyer for Procter & Gamble in Hunt Valley and Ben is President of Golden Construction in Jarrettsville.

CARMEN HUHTA MULHERN and her husband, Owen ’00, are living in West Chester, PA, where Owen works as a financial advisor and Carmen is at home raising their children, Logan, 2, and Keller, 6 months.

FILIP PERICH completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science in May 2004. He is now employed as Senior Research Engineer at Cougaar Software, Inc., and is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

JESSICA WATTS TOWER and her husband, Larry, were married in June 2003. They bought a house in Pennsylvania. She received her master’s degree from Towson University in occupational therapy and works for a local school system. Her husband works at Lancaster Regional and is an associate professor at York College in the nursing department.

KATIE SNYDER SMITH has been working from home for the past year, “which has been great! My job allows me to travel all over the US to install medical equipment, and train and lecture medical technicians on different lab methodologies. I have also coached volleyball at my alma mater for five years.”

2001

CLASS AGENT: JILLIAN MATUNDUN

CHARLIE ATHEY is in his second year of law school in Baltimore. He is currently law clerk for the Investigations Division of the Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office.

JAMIE COHEN earned her master’s degree in Special Education and Human Development from the George Washington University in 2003. She bought a house and became engaged last spring, and is planning an April wedding.

ALISON GIOVAN completed her master’s degree in Asian Studies and International Business at Seton Hall University. “In April 2004, I bought a house in Kennett Square, PA, and got married in June. I am now working for an international relocation company in New Castle, DE, relocating corporate executives overseas or bringing them into the U.S. If there are any alumni taking an overseas assignment with their company contact me!”

KARA LEE married David Brunton in March 2004, and graduated from law school in May.

COLLEEN MOORE moved to Johnson City, TN, in May to attend East Tennessee State University where she is pursuing a Master of Arts in Teaching for Elementary Education. “I got the teaching bug while working onboard the Schooner Sultana in Chestertown after graduation.”

ROBERT PAGE is living and working in scenic Delaware, enjoying the successes of friends and family. He is a marketing account executive with MBNA. Robert reports that Matt Webb ’01 will be completing his master’s in public administration from Wilmington College this spring.

CHRISTINA WINGATE is working as an Admissions and Marketing Director for Genesis Health Care. She recently became engaged to Matt Spence, Program Director and morning show co-host for 96.7 WCEI in Easton, MD.

2002

CLASS AGENT: JORDAN YELINEK

PAM BAADER has been working in Materials Management with Northrop Grumman Corporation (NGC), a global defense company, for almost four months now. “I love it. It is extremely challenging, but in a good way. I couldn’t be happier. I am also getting ready to buy a house this month so I am really excited for that as well.”

KAT BENNETT has been working at Steppingstone Museum in Havre de Grace, MD, since graduation. She is Assistant Director and volunteer coordinator there. “I live in Chesapeake City, and miss all my WAC buddies desperately!”

ALICIA GILLIS is in nursing school at Salisbury University.

AJA JONES is working at Winslow Township Middle School in Atco, NJ, as an Educational Assistant, as well as the cheerleading coach. She began taking graduate courses in the student personnel services program at Rowan University this January.

MEGAN KATE RIDOLFI reports that after completing one year of law school, she decided to retire from the field of law. She is now working toward her master’s in education. “I am student-teaching fourth grade and writing the second thesis in my lifetime. My hard work is about to pay off. In January I became certified to teach, now all I need is to find a classroom of my own. Hopefully in May I will have completed my thesis and held on to my 4.0, so that I can graduate with honors.”

JONATHAN RATICAN is attending the Berkeley Divinity School at Yale University. The church school of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Chestertown sent Jonathan the proceeds from a recent pancake supper to help provide school supplies.

MICHAEL SCOZZAFAVA completed his master’s in Environmental and Energy Policy at the University of Delaware and is working with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, DC, as a Presidential Management Fellow.

ERIC WATERMAN has been building a financial services company designed to teach families how to become debt-free and financially independent.

2003

CLASS AGENT: COURTNEY BUSCH

SEAN ASKHAM is working for the St. Paul Travelers company in northern Virginia as an underwriter in the executive liability department.

ANNETTE BANGERT is a teaching assistant at University of Virginia.

STACY BARNES is living in Honolulu and attending the MA/COM graduate program at Hawaii Pacific University. She is also working full-time at Dave & Buster’s. “I love it here and am very much looking forward to a snow-free winter on the beach! I hear that Katie Kastner is here, too. There’s a free place to stay.”

JOHN CRONIN is back in school in New Orleans. He reports he is “settling into the rhythms of being a scholar once again (or at least going to class and spending god awful amounts of time in the library, if that’s what qualifies a scholar).”

KELLY MCCLURE reports: “After the L.A. Marathon in March, I thought I’d try something a little more diverse. So, on the sixth of November I participated in and finished my first triathlon on Catalina Island! Still volunteering with junior highers and will resume grad classes in the spring. Work is okay. Elizabeth Smith ’04 is playing on the U. of MD varsity women’s basketball team and married Allen Gilchrist last August.”

MEG NICHOLS is a second-year law student at the University of Maryland. She says she can’t wait to be finished with school “so I can finally make a contribution to WC.”

CHRISTINA MARIE ORTA is pursing a master of science in Health Service Administration at the University of Central Florida in Orlando.

MEG PRESTON is attending Widener University Law School three days a week and working with autistic children at a nature center.

HEATHER RUSSELL passed her master’s comp. exam in mathematics at the University of Iowa. She also received the Teaching Assistant Award.

CLAY SWEARS is in his second year of law school at the University of Maryland.

TARA WAGNER is pursuing her master’s and doctoral degrees in Loyola College’s Psy.D. program. “I have just completed my first semester. It’s tough, but I love it! I am living at home in Baltimore. I have been seeing an amazing guy since September and still keep in touch with many of my ZTA sisters and fellow WAC alumni.”

DAVID BAUER is in graduate school at George Washington University.

LOUIS BLANCHETTE is teaching tennis in Atlanta and going to graduate school.

GEOFFREY FOLTYN is studying to be a financial advisor.

EMILY GETMAN has moved to New York and is a master’s candidate in Fordham University’s International Political Economy and Development program.

ALLISON LAMARCA is working at the Federal Reserve Bank of NY as an assistant examiner. She is training to become a commissioned bank examiner and will start graduate school next fall.

TYLER LOWRY has a new job at Drexel Technical, an IT outsourcing company in King of Prussia, PA. “Great job with a bright future. I miss WAC and the swim team. Have made it for one meet already. Good luck Swim Team.” He also returned to WAC and visited with Dave Bauer ’04, Vincent Sibilia ’04 and Alex Kuhn ’04. “Great time had by all.”

MELISSA MAENNER has returned to Chestertown and is teaching 10th grade English and supervising the yearbook at Kent County High School. “The purple house is always open, so stop on by and say hi!”

SARAH MIDDLETON bought a house in Harford Co. with her boyfriend Scott Applefeld. She has a Production Management & Casting Internship with Everyman Theatre and has been the box office manager for PWTC in Baltimore. She also performed in the Royal Court Cast at the Maryland Renaissance Festival.

CHRISTINE SCHMIDT is earning a master’s of science in Environmental Education through Audubon Expedition Institute and Lesley University. The program requires travel—she recently returned from the Pacific Northwest and is in Hawaii this semester.
